'YOU BE THE JUDGE' WITH TALENT TV AND BBC ONE             December 2004
London 16 December 2004: Leading UK entertainment producer Talent Television has won a BBC One commission for a brand new concept in factual entertainment. "You Be The Judge" is an alternative arena for people to air their grievances and settle civil disputes.

Commissioned by Jo Clinton Davis, BBC Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor, "You Be The Judge" will take a variety of cases and provide a resolution for those involved with the help of legal advisors. Talent Television's recently appointed Director of Entertainment Mark Linsey is executive producer and Barbara Lee is producer.

The primetime special, which has been adapted from a format created by Hong Kong-based media mogul, Robert Chua, and represented by Distraction Formats, is due to broadcast in Spring 2005. The real-life disputes will be wide ranging but all will offer a solution to members of the public who feel they have suffered an injustice.

Civil disputes are a national epidemic: over back fences, across driveways, at home and in the office, thousands of people are involved in bitter arguments, be it financial, professional or domestic. "You Be The Judge" is offering people who are passionate in their views and frustrated by their situation a chance to voice their opinion in order to get justice - decided by the most objective jury in the land... The Great British Public.

This is the latest in a raft of new commissions for Talent TV and reflects the company's continued growth and commitment to producing quality entertainment programming. Recent commissions include Made in LA for Sky One, a second series of Casino Casino for Challenge TV, a second series of Best of Friends for CBBC, and several international deals.

Mark Linsey, Director of Entertainment at Talent Television, said: "You Be the Judge is a brand new idea and we are delighted that BBC One had the confidence to commission the show. It will be a lively and informative programme offering real people with real problems the chance to air their grievances."

Talent Television (part of Talent Group plc) is a leading independent UK format creator and producer of innovative television, video and interactive programming. The Company's reputation for prime-time entertainment programming is unrivalled. Subjects covered so far include "The Nation's IQ", "Relationships", "General Knowledge" and "The End of Year Test". Talent was also a pioneer in reality television with "The Villa", which was first produced in 1999 for Sky One.

And, last October, the "Test the Nation" format was successfully launched on TV Asahi, in association with Japanese indie TV Man Union.

Talent Kids, the children's division, was established last year to develop high quality, innovative programming for kids. Its first commission was for the Disney Channel, with "Inside Clyde", an original adventure game show, the first 13 x half-hours of which was screened earlier this year. This was followed by a breakthrough reality entertainment format for 6-11 year olds called "Best of Friends". Produced for CBBC, the first series of 15 x half-hours appeared on The CBBC Channel in March 04.

In March 1995, Chua launched the Chinese language satellite TV service China Entertainment Television Broadcast Ltd (CETV) which was acquired by AOL/Time Warner in 2000. Chua recently sold his entire shareholdings to AOL/TW recently to focus on creating formats.

One of the most influential personalities in Asian media, Chua is also regarded by television industry executives worldwide as a significant resource for Asian co-production, distribution and consultation services.
