Steven Spielberg was ill-advised to mix politics with the Olympic Games by resigning as the Olympic Artistic Advisor to the Ceremonies.
Mia Farrow and all high profile personalities and stars should not follow the various Activists' advice to attack China as Spielberg did recently.
They should first lobby President Bush who did not send any troops to Darfur , and has no regrets for not doing so. More importantly President Bush will be going to the Olympics regardless of Spielberg's resignation in his recent interview on BBC ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7245670.stm )
Without understanding China 's position how can Spielberg, Farrow, fellow Americans and Activists attack China instead of first attacking President Bush for doing nothing to help Darfur ?
China is doing its part by helping with Darfur 's infrastructure such as power stations and water supply, and financial and military support for the African Union and the UN.
What has America done so far? If Sudan does not sell its oil to China there are others who would want their oil. If Sudan does not buy arms from China , others would willingly sell to them just like US (with its double standard) sells hi-tech arms to Taiwan while it recognizes China 'One-China Policy'.
Unfortunately the Sudanese Government does not need hi-tech weapons otherwise US would want to sell their hi-tech weapons to them as they with Taiwan .
I respect Spielberg's work as he is definitely one of the world's greatest film makers but his resignation has disappointed me and over a billion Chinese. It was reported that it was Spielberg that first expressed his wish to contribute to the Beijing Olympic Games. China was honored and appointed him to be the Artistic Advisor but he embarrassed China with his ill-advised high profile resignation by mixing 'politics' with the Olympic Games.
It would have been more effective had Spielberg lobbied the American and the World's Film Industry to produce more 'socially responsible' content films (fun and creative films that he is best known for) instead of 'sex and violence' that is now happening in Darfur (raping and killing), and not resigned without first understanding what China has been doing and what US has not been doing.
